Weddings - Further Advice

Should I book a DJ?
You don't have to - any many couples don't. It really is a matter of personal choice and we don't mind either way.

Booking a DJ means you have someone to fill all the gaps, motivate your audience and make informed decisions about play material. If you have booked a late licence (1pm or later) with your venue, then a DJ is often ideal to fill the last hour or so of the evening.

If I don't book a DJ who will fill the gaps?
We're happy to play music supplied by you on CD or ipod through our sound system.  Our only restriction is that we finish at midnight unless specific arrangments are made for us to play later.  However, if we need to stay later than midnight there would be an extra fee.

Can the band please the whole audience?
Some of the best party bands are those that can function at lots of levels whilst still able to get a party going and keep it flowing. After all many parties are dictated by the people and how they feel on the evening. This is where a good range of material and experience is vital.

Special Venue Considerations

Space, noise control and physical constraints
The venue may be concerned about space especially with a band of more than 4 or 5 members. We are a seven-piece band, however three of our members play brass instruments i.e. saxophone, trumpet and trombone and they don't take up the amount of room say a drum kit would take up. Venues can also have their own agenda and try to direct you to their regular house band etc. Some venues will cleverly not inform you that they are under local sound constraints before booking. This then becomes your and our pressure on the evening of the event. Venues that have lots of stairs or inadequate lifts to top floor concert rooms will add considerable setting up time for the band and you'll have to bear this in mind.

Volume
Many couples worry about the volume of the main entertainment. If you have followed the advice above volume will not be problem. Last time you were in a club and dancing on the floor you would not have considered asking the DJ to turn the volume down. Quite the contrary is the case. It is our experience that if the entertainment is of the highest quality and everyone is having a good time then the volume won't matter. If you are really concerned about this then you should consider a background music ensemble.
